Training A key element of the project is a training programme which will benefit communities, parish councillors and policy teams.The project aims to help communities to be skilled up with expertise that they can then pass on. Training is being offered in Project Management skills, fund raising skills, how to write press releases and work with the media to best promote the project, communication skills and in Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety, to all participating communities. All the communities will have access to training to help them input and update their website pages. The aim of the project is to equip communities with the know how to sustain their project and to be able to offer advice and guidance to other communities looking to develop areas of green space in their own neighbourhoods. To create a skills base communities will also receive guidance on the current thinking on environmental, habitat and conservation issues and a general background to heritage and historic environment policies.Each community has a local training plan which will support and facilitate their individual projects progress. Raising Awareness of open green space and village green planning policy issues is a key element of the project and to this end a refresher course on the legislation affecting registration and management, the DEFRA processes and implications for planning policy and ground decisions will be available to parish councillors and planning policy teams. Parish councillors and in particular parish clerks will have access to training and information on Village Greens and Common Land with relevance to management issues and resolving common problems, providing safe access, insurance, risk assessments, health and safety, due diligence - how to look after our green spaces as safe places for people to use and reduces risks of litigation.
